THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — Minnesota’s State Rapid Response Team (SRRT) has received notice from Textron that approximately 385 Arctic Cat employees in Thief River Falls will be laid off this May.

The SSRT received a Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) letter Thursday, Feb. 27 that detailed the upcoming layoffs at Thief River Falls Arctic Cat facilities, which are located at 600 Brooks Ave., according to a press release issued the same day. The layoffs are a result of “changing business needs” that require Textron to reduce its workforce at the location permanently, according to the WARN letter.

The Herald in December wrote about Textron’s plan to cease Arctic Cat operations in Thief River Falls, as detailed in an 8-K form filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, but this new documentation makes things official and gives a more accurate number of people whose employment will be affected.

The layoffs will take place from May 8 to May 22, the release said. Affected positions include — but are not limited to — technicians, programmers, custodians, engineers, supervisors, painters, inspectors, managers, analysts, security, drivers and welders.
